The main objectives of the Office of the Manager Airport Security are the management and control of airport security and the co-ordination of all security resources provided at the Malta International Airport.
Main Responsabilities of the Manager Airport Security:
- To participate within the Aviation Security Committee.
- Implement policy decisions taken by the Aviation Security Committee.
- To ensure a safe and secure environment at the airport at all times for:
All passengers, staff and the general public.
The Air Terminal, buildings, equipment and facilities with the airport perimeter.
All aircraft whilst on the ground and all air cargo from the time it arrives at the airport after off loading from aircraft until it is deposited in the freight-sheds and fro the time it leaves the freight-shed to the time it is loaded on the aircraft for departure.
- To set up organizational structure capable of addressing the strategic objectives of the Aviation Security Committee and the Ministry for Home Affairs and the Environment to safeguard the airport and its facilities.
- To formulate and update emergency plans to deal with special, risky or dangerous situations within the airport perimeter, including related corrective measures and actions.
- To present a plan for putting the required legislation in place in order to provide the authorities concerned with the necessary legal powers to deal with both normal and abnormal security situations, as well as unsafe or threatening situations within the airports.
- To see that procedures exist which ensure that equipment for security purposes is in good working order and that personnel are trained in its proper and efficient use.
- To enquire into the circumstances relating to all security incidents at the Airport, and make the necessary recommendations to the competent authorities, and where applicable to the Aviation Security Committee.
- To maintain close and effective liaison with all other organ is at ions with responsibilities for any aspect of security at the airport.
- To maintain a close and effective liaison with the national security authorities.
- To advise and co-ordinate the promotion of security awareness and vigilance on the part of all airport staff and those who use the airport facilities, including the public in general.
- To co-ordinate all security operations, measures and exercises at the airport.
- To develop staffing plans of the business activity and management of human resources, including staff development programmes and their training needs.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide essential training to security, law enforcement, airport operations, management and air crew.
